It's not easy to stay within the confines of your own mind. Especially when you see others get attention and someone treats them with loving kindness.
Your first thought is a jealous one. Jealously is your defense. You secretly wish that someone would do the same to and for you. Your very being cries out but no one hears you. Someone has really abused you and made you feel that you don't deserve any kindness. So you partially accept it and convince yourself to move on. The other part just cries inside and secretly hopes that this will come to an end very soon. My goodness, how fatalistic. So sad.
Millions of children all over the country are going through this scenario hour after hour and day after day. Who is going to stand up for those little ones who are defenseless?
How many times in your career as a teacher have you seen the marks and bruises on a young student, and you felt helpless?
How many times have you experienced an abusive manager or boss on your job and wondered if maybe he or she had been severely abused at one time or another in their lifetime?
All behavior is learned. There is no scientific proof that abusive behavior is inherently acquired as a result of the genes that we possess. However, modern "political correctness" says we can't talk about this in public. Some of today's society act as if we should leave it to the professionals. The hard working professional are so overwhelmed that all they can see is a swamp full of alligators and no help in sight.
Look folks, hurt is hurt; pain is pain and lifetime scars are forever. I do hope that some one person or group is willing to step up to the plate and hit one out of the park for the abused ones; big and/or little. Your opinion counts. So let us hear it.
